Hartford Water Pollution Control Facility Expansion
Incinerator Upgrades & Heat Recovery Facility

Location:

Hartford, Connecticut

Owner:

The Metropolitan District Commission

Banton was retained to perform extensive upgrades to the state’s largest wastewater treatment plant. The contract also included construction of a heat recovery facility, which now provides a large portion of the MDC’s electrical needs. The system serves to offset the cost of the facility’s high demand by capturing excess/waste heat from the plant’s incinerators and using it to generate electricity. This endeavor was part of the District’s Clean Water Project, which allocated a $400 million investment into the facility's improvements.
